Sugar Magazine has named Hilary Duff the 3rd most inspirational celebrity of 2006. The readers of the British teen magazine voted Kylie Minogue #1 on the list.


Kylie Minogue was named Most Inspirational.

Material Girls DVD Sales and Rental Information

In its first week out on DVD, Material Girls was the 13th most rented DVD, grossing $3.45 million.

It's hard to say whether this is a good number or not, but I'm guessing it was in line with expectations. Also, I don't think this chart includes DVD sales, just rentals.

IMDb.com - Earth's biggest movie database, has released their top 25 stars for 2006. These rankings were not based upon critical assessments or box-office performance, but the actual search behavior of over 42 million users of IMDb.com. Johnny Depp was ranked #1 for the third year in a row.

Hilary Duff was ranked 15th on the list. (She was 10th last year). Here is what IMDB had to say about Hilary: "Little Lizzie McGuire finally grew up this year, and while Material Girls was a major flop, her transformation to young woman was chronicled endlessly by the paparazzi."

Material Girls - Review of DVD Bonus Features

Material Girls is now out on DVD. The DVD contains both Widescreen and Fullscreen versions, along with a few other bonus features, including:

Director Commentary: Pretty much standard commentary from the director. Martha Coolidge talks about the cast, set, and how different scenes were filmed. Nothing out of the ordinary. It seems like this commentary was more scripted than others I have seen before, and Martha seemed to explain a lot of things that didn't really need explaining if you had seen the movie before. The one thing that surprised me was how much of the film was improvised. It seems like Hilary had a bunch of stuff in the movie that she came up with on the spot, which is impressive. I think that commentaries are always better with more than one person, and I would have loved to hear a commentary with Hilary and Haylie, but oh well.

Cast Of Characters, The making of Material Girls: Pretty good featurette that includes comments from most of the major cast. Cast members talk about how they got their roles, and about their characters.

Getting to know Hilary and Haylie as the Marchetta Sisters: Another quality featurette similar to the "making of" one except that this one focuses on Hilary and Haylie only. Duff fans will really like this footage of the girls talking about how the movie was made, and sharing some behind the scenes stories from the set.

Material Girls Music Montage: This is a montage of clips from the movie, along with footage from the set that is played over Hilary and Haylie's "Material Girl" song.

Play With Fire Video: Most of us have already seen the PWF video, but it's nice to have it in DVD quality.

Trailer: Same thing as the PWF video. Seen it, but nice to have it on DVD.

Overall I think these bonus features are pretty good. They are pretty much similar to what you get on every DVD nowadays, but I think that the featurettes are above average, and the commentary is pretty decent.

Material Girls - Out Today on DVD

Material Girls is out today on DVD in North America. I would encourage everyone to support Hilary and Haylie and buy a copy. The movie didn't do great at the box office, but strong DVD sales would show that Hilary still has a loyal following. I will try to post any DVD sales numbers... if I can find them.

People magazine has confirmed that Hilary Duff and Joel Madden have called it quits.

From the People article: "I can indeed confirm that Joel is single," the band's manager, Steve Feinberg, says. "We are not going to elaborate on Joel's personal life but I will say they have split."

Hilary Duff and Joel Madden Break Up?

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Hilary Duff and Joel Madden are calling it quits.

According to the article: "Madden made a guest DJ appearance at Enclave on Wednesday night and openly talked about how he is currently single. Madden told clubgoers Duff broke up with him about ten days ago and that their eight-year age difference was causing problems. (Madden is 27, Duff is 19.)

After taking over the DJ booth, Madden mingled and took pictures with some ladies. Word is Madden partied at the club until close."

This is certainly a surprising development, as Hilary and Joel have had a charmed relationship up until this point. Just a few days ago Hilary was on the Tyra Banks show talking about Joel.

While this is definitely a legitimate source, Joel has been known to play jokes on the media in the past, so I'm not sure that I believe the story 100% - yet. I guess we will have to wait to hear from Hilary for further confirmation.

Hilary: Ooh a monkey, a cheeky one! No, wait, actually i'd want a pig. Apparently pigs can get as smart as a five year old kid! Actually, me and my boyfriend Joel are such dorks, we've already discussed what we'd call a pig if we had one...We'd call it Eli! I know it's weird, but it's cute!

Shout: Ah, Joel - so you're still all loved up then?

Hilary: Oh yeah, i'm really happy, everything's cool. It's all good. He's on tour at the moment though so i'm really missing him a lot!

Shout: Do you still have fun together?

Hilary: We just do normal things y'know? Like going to movies and cooking. Well, i like to try cooking! I'm not fantastic but it's fun to give it a go!

Shout: So how did you lovebirds meet?

Hilary: I like spa treatments like facials and massages. To be honest though, i'm a bit funny with people touching me, so just being outdoors in the fresh air de-stresses me

Shout: You're a brunette babe now - Why the big change?

Hilary: I was so sick of going to the salon and sitting there for like, 3 hours while they touched up my roots. I'm feeling the natural look at the moment

Shout: Now, you've got a flat with your sis, Haylie - How's that going?

Hilary: Oh we're best friends. I mean, we argue like normal sisters but it's fine. We've got a lot of the same friends too. She's in New York at the mo though, so i miss her like crazy! The flat things cool though, i'm really tidy and shes super messy but we live on opposite sides so as long as her mess stays on her side, i don't mind.

Shout: How do you like to keep fit n' healthy?

Hilary: I love pilates. I also love swimming and hiking. I really love being outdoors and having fun - i think that's really good for me. I just eat healthily and make sure i'm sensible with it. It's still important to have treats, Y'know?

Shout: And what about the big Hollywood craze to be super skinny?

Hilary: Y'know what? I'm sick of hearing about it! It's just not a big deal over here in New York or L.A y'know? Like, it's sad that people get so wrapped up in whether someone's put on 5 pounds - Or if they've lossed it! I think it's best to just be happy whatever you are. People are so weirdly interested in all that and as long as people wanna read it, it'll just keep coming! I say basically just leave skinny celebs alone.

Hilary Duff Donates Meals to Gulf Coast Hurricane Victims

Internationally-celebrated, multi-platinum recording artist, concert performer, actress, designer, philanthropist and business woman Hilary Duff will continue her enormously generous charitable contributions to the victims of Hurricane Katrina with the donation of more than 200,000 meals to two shelters in Houston, TX. Duff has purchased these meals through USA Harvest, who she has done relief work and philanthropic donations with in the past, to be delivered to the Star of Hope shelter as well as the Harbor Lights Salvation Army shelter in Houston. Each shelter will receive 100,000 meals for the Hurricane Katrina refugees who are still shelter residents. Tyme It, a trucking company out of Louisville, will be delivering the supplies for free today and tomorrow, November 16th-17th, to Harbor Lights and Star of Hope, respectively.

“Hilary has set an extraordinary example with her generous contributions to the Gulf Coast victims of last year’s tragic hurricanes,” said Stan Curtis, Chairman of USA Harvest. “With her current contribution, Hilary will have donated over 2.7 million meals to the victims who still need these generous donations.”

On the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina in August, Duff traveled to New Orleans with Curtis to visit and aid victims of last year’s devastating hurricanes. Hilary’s schedule was packed with trips to elementary schools, a high school, a disaster recovery center and a rescue mission to provide inspirational words, food and comfort to the many victims of the storm.

The 2.7 million meals that Hilary has donated through USA Harvest in the last year were prepared and distributed at Salvation Army canteens throughout the Gulf Coast region. Several of Hilary’s corporate partners including Fashion Accessory Bazaar, Mattel, Hasbro, Freedom Water and Energy drinks, Meijer Grocery Stores, Mas Tec. Teen pleads not guilty to stalking Hilary Duff

According to the AP, A New York teenager pleaded not guilty Tuesday to stalking pop star Hilary Duff.

"Maksim Myaskovskiy, 18, was charged with the felony when he appeared in court, and his bail was raised to $1 million. A Nov. 22 hearing was set to determine whether enough evidence exists to order him to stand trial. Myaskovskiy was arrested Friday after he made several phone calls from a hotel room to a private security firm employed by Duff, Manhattan Beach police Sgt. Steve Tobias said.

An investigator with the firm told police Myaskovskiy threatened to harm Duff at an event she was scheduled to attend.

"He made physical threats against both Ms. Duff and her boyfriend," Tobias said.

Duff and her family sought an order of protection against Myaskovskiy on Oct. 12, alleging in court documents that he tried to contact her by visiting her neighborhood, the neighborhood of her boyfriend - Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden - and her mother's home.

Court documents said Myaskovskiy admitted to being 'obsessed' with her, has stated his intention of purchasing a weapon, and has threatened to kill himself and to engage in dramatic actions to get her attention ... and that Joel Madden stands in their way."

Joan of Arcadia - Season 2 - DVD Release Date - November 28, 2006

The second season of the cancelled TV show Joan of Arcadia will be released on DVD in the United States on November 28, 2006. This might be of interest to Hilary Duff fans, as Hilary guest starred in the episode entitled "The Rise & Fall of Joan Girardi". It is my opinion that this guest-starring role was Hilary's best dramatic acting performance to date. The part of Dylan Samuels really gave Hilary a chance to play a different role than what she usually gets to play in her fluffy teen movies.

The second season of Joan of Arcadia also features Haylie Duff in a recurring role as Stevie Marx, a teen with parental troubles. Haylie stars in the episodes "Romancing the Joan", "Independence Day", and "Shadows and Light".

This is a picture that Hilary Duff posted on her official AOL blog. In the blog entry she called the movie War Inc. so I guess that's what they are calling it at the moment. I think that's a much better title than Brand Hauser, but we'll just have to wait and see what the movie is actually going to be called.

I think this is one of the better pictures of Hilary that we have seen recently. Too bad it's so small.

Hannah Montana Soundtrack Debuts at Number 1

A while ago I predicted that Miley Cyrus would become "the next Hilary Duff". Cyrus, who stars in the Disney Channel show Hannah Montana, proved me right this week when the Hannah Montana Soundtrack topped the Billboard charts selling about 275,000 albums. It is obvious to me that Miley will go on to have a huge career in music that will rival Hilary's success.

Movie News - Foodfight! and War Inc. aka Brand Hauser: Stuff Happens

Variety is reporting that Hilary Duff's new movie, which was previously known as "War Inc." will now be called "Brand Hauser: Stuff Happens". The movie, which was previously thought to be a drama, is a dark political satire co-written by and starring John Cusack.

There is a lot of contradictory information about this movie coming from different sources, but Variety is the industry leader, so I assume they are pretty reliable. According to the article "Cusack plays an assassin assigned to kill a Middle East oil minister. His cover is that he's producing a big trade show that includes a wedding between a local pop star and a politico, but complications ensue."

It is still unknown what Hilary Duff's role will be. Previous reports had her playing a young reporter who gets romantically involved with Cusack, but now that there is a pop star in the movie it seems like that would be the logical part for her to play. Like many things in Hilary's career right now, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Among other Duff movie news, the animated feature Foodfight! has set a tentative release date of November 16, 2007. The movie, which stars the Duff Sisters, Charlie Sheen, and Eva Longoria among others, has had a few different release dates so far, so I expect that it could be moving around quite a bit before finally settling on a weekend.

Hilary Duff and Joel Madden Stalked by Paparazzi Photographer

Hilary Duff claims in court documents that she fears for her life, alleging she and her boyfriend are being stalked by two men -- one a paparazzi and the other a homeless man.

TMZ has obtained court documents, filed today in Los Angeles Superior Court, in which Duff and Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden claim that a 19-year-old Russian emigre came to the United States "for the sole purpose of meeting and becoming romantically involved with Ms. Duff."

The court documents state the man, whose first name is Max, "admitted to being 'obsessed' with her, has stated his intention of 'removing' his 'enemies' (i.e., those who prevent him from being with her), has stated his intention of purchasing a weapon, and has threatened to kill himself and to engage in dramatic actions to get her attention."

According to the documents, Max "has stated his belief that Hilary is in love with him and that Joel Madden stands in their way."

The court documents also claim David Joseph Klein, a 50-year-old celebrity photographer who is roomates with Max, is also a threat.

The documents state, "Over the past six weeks, the defendants have engaged in an accelerated effort to make contact with Hilary, including visits to her neighborhood, to her mother's home, to her boyfriend's neighborhood ... to Mr. Madden's concert venue, and direct calls to Hilary's manager."

According to the documents, the police detained Max at least once at one of Madden's concerts and questioned Klein at the same event.

The stars are requesting a judge to order Max and David Joseph Klein to stay at least 100 yards away from Hilary Duff, her sister Haylie, Joel Madden and his twin brother Benji.

Material Girls DVD Release Date - December 12 2006

According to Amazon.com Material Girls will be released on DVD December 12th. The DVD will include both Full Screen and Widescreen versions of the film.

Hilary Duff's new album release date delayed so she can film War Inc.

MTV's TRL is reporting that Hilary Duff's new album will be released in February 2007.

The album was originally slated to be released in November, and then was pushed back to December 5 before being moved again to February.

Part of the reason for the delay is that Hilary will start filming her new movie "War Inc." in Bulgaria in a few weeks. The movie stars John Cusack as a hit man who falls for a young reporter played by Duff.

While many people have been patiently awaiting some new music from Hilary, the album will just have to wait. Starring in a serious movie like War Inc. is an opportunity that Hilary just can't afford to pass up.

Hilary Duff to star in War Inc. with John Cusack

After starring in countless teen feel-good movies, it looks like Hilary Duff might have finally found a role with a little bit of substance. According to multiple sources, Hilary will star along side John Cusack in the upcoming movie War Inc. In the movie Cusack plays a hitman who falls in love with a sexy reporter played by Duff. The film is being produced by Nu Image and will be shot entirely in Bulgaria.

We do not have all the details yet, and Hilary herself has not confirmed the role, but if the news is true it would be a huge step in the right direction for Hilary's acting career. To be able to transition from teen movies to a serious action-drama like this would open many doors for future projects.
