Listen to Material Girl - Other Song and Album News
The Hilary and Haylie Duff cover of Material Girl has been released on the internet.

I think they did a good job paying homage to original Madonna song. There are probably a lot of Madonna fans who aren't very happy that Hilary Duff is remaking Madonna's most recognizable song, but I don't think they will be that disappointed if they give it a chance. The lyrics are the same; the only thing that's really different is the beat.
There were rumors that Timbaland produced the song, but now it looks like the track was produced by none other than Joel Madden and the Dead Executives. It has been speculated that it is Joel's voice at the beginning of the song. The beat sounds like it could have been done by Timbaland, but I guess we'll just have to wait until the CD credits come out to see if Timbaland had any involvement, or if it was 100% Dead Executives.
In other news about this song, Hilary announced that Material Girl will not be released as a single. It will be featured in the movie "Material Girls", but there won't be a music video for the song.
The song will be released on the GirlNext CD on August 15th, but it is unclear if it will be on the Material Girls soundtrack, or if there will even be a soundtrack at all. Hollywood Records announced that there would be a soundtrack, but I think they might have canceled the project.
It is also somewhat confirmed that Hilary Duff will be releasing a new album in November. Two songs on the album are rumored to be called "Smile" and "Happy".

Shauney Baby was Fired by Susan Duff
Two days ago I posted that Hilary's drummer Shauney Baby was leaving Hilary's band. It is now being reported by the Washington Post that Shauney was fired by Hilary's mom Susan. According to Shauney's publicist: "Shauney was shocked and disappointed by the actions of being terminated by Hilary's mother. It came as a surprise and with no explanation."

Hilary Duff to Perform for Military Families at Fort Bragg - August 1, 2006
The Armed Forces Foundation has issued the following press release detailing a concert that Hilary Duff will be doing for Military Families on August 1st:
"Hilary Duff, the multi-platinum recording artist and concert headliner, star of television and films, designer and philanthropist, will perform for 9,000 troops from Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base at a concert on Aug. 1 to benefit the Armed Forces Foundation. The concert, from the Hilary Duff Benefit Concert Series, is made possible through the Armed Forces Foundation - Hilary Duff Charity Partnership. Hilary Duff and the Foundation began working together nearly two years ago. Understanding the hardships military families face, Hilary felt compelled to use her talents to brighten their lives.
Each year Hilary provides the Armed Forces Foundation a number of free tickets and backstage passes for select military families to her shows around the country. Generally, these families have had to travel to the closest concert venue on Hilary's tour to see her. Now Hilary is devoting an entire concert to military families. Hilary is holding the free concert for those stationed at Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base and their families. The concert will be held at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, N.C. Showtime begins at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 1.

Hilary Duff's Drummer Shauney Baby to Leave the Band?
Hilary Duff's drummer Shauney Baby might be leaving Hilary's band. The following message was posted on Shauney's MySpace page.
"Hi There,
just wanted to let you know that I am no longer drumming for hilary, i'm a part of a rock band that's recording a record. I will keep you updated if you're interested. It's my project and it's an all girl band."
I can not confirm this story 100%, but I think it is legitimate. Shauney will finish out the tour dates this summer, but after that it looks like Hilary will be looking for a new drummer. Shauney Baby has been Hilary's drummer since she started touring, and if I am not mistaken is the only member of the band who has been with Hilary since the beginning.

How much is Material Girls being hurt by not having a Trailer and Poster?
I saw Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest last night. Walking through the theater hallways I saw lots of posters for upcoming movies. During the previews I also saw 5 or 6 movie trailers. Which got me thinking: How much is Material Girls being hurt by not having a trailer and poster? Think of all the exposure that MG is missing out on. If Material Girls doesn't do well at the box office, the fact that it doesn't have a trailer and poster could be a big reason why.
